Discover Sainte-Agnès's military fort, which seems to emerge from the hillside at the south of the village. It was erected in the rock and was used to push back the Italians in June 1940!
Sainte-Agnès, which is perched on a rocky peak on the French-Italian border, has always been a highly coveted defence site. In the 16th century, on the border between the Count of Provence's and the Count of Genoa's estates, the House of Savoy built a first fortification. As the last bulwark of the Maginot Line, the fort represented its final bastion in the south.
